The instructions are so bad that you can't even call them that. They go into great detail about how to read seconds, minutes and hours for the clock display, but that's not all you get. I have a BSEE degree in electrical engineering and I can't for the life of me figure out more than setting the clock and the electric rate. There are no instructions to re-zero the readings to start over for a new device. The "Reset" resets the entire device, not just the clock setting. There are no good instructions on the internet, including the few videos that cover similar meters with the same design as other companies. If you buy the two tariffs model, this problem will be even worse. The device is useless except for reading the instantaneous Volts, Amps, Watts, and PFC. If you buy this, you will be sorry. I will send it back in the morning.

👤I own an original Kill-O-Watt version of this meter and it seems like it's just as good. If you shine a flashlight up from the bottom, it is easy to see the screen, even if it is hard to read. You can read it from the wall. I don't understand why they don't back-light the screen since it has a power source. The instructions are bad, but they are easy to figure out. If you're enough of a nerd to figure out the instructions, you're able to get one of these meters. The Kill-O-Watt doesn't have the ability to enter your local electric rate so you can tell over time how much the appliance is costing you. I take away one star because of the instructions and because the meter is hard to read in room light, which is where most outlets are.

👤I am a "Kill-A-Watt" user, so it wasn't what I was expecting. You have to reset the device every time you want to read something. kWh's already read, cost/kWh already consumed, hours used, etc., are not reset when the unit is unplugged. If you need the unit to maintain the cost/kWh, but you have to reset it every time you use a new device, be prepared to enter new cost/kWh every time.

I plugged the extension cord into the outlet and the skillet into the cord. I noticed the drop in the voltage and the increase in the Amp. I subtracted the drop at the outlet from the drop at the end of the cord to figure out how much I was losing in the cord. Dividing that by the power gave me more power. The path is twice the length of the cord because the current runs through the hot and neutral. I divided the ohms by the length of the cord. I knew I could look up the gauge online. The cords I have are 16 gauge. I can get 2.5hp with them. If I upgraded to 14 gauge cords, I might get a little more power. I'm happy with 16 gauge.

I couldn't find any suggestions on how to properly monitor 3-phase circuits or compute Power Factor for inductive loads, such as the motors of hot tabs. They told me I wasn't putting enough pressure on it to latch it, and other excuses, until I convinced them that I knew what I was doing and one wouldn't latch no matter what. I received one in the mail that did latch correctly. I'm watching the main power coming in. The main power panel is inside the house. My rating is easy to install, easy to use, and the monitoring meets my needs. Tech support is too defensive of their products and the product quality is below par. When I was having trouble with tech support, I went to the eyedro website to buy aCT. It was $19 for the CT and $30 for shipping and handling.

The product is wrongly indicated as being for 115 volts under technical details. It doesn't bother to list the maximum power if it is used with a 220 volts input instead of a 110 volts input. Wattage is the number of kilowatts of power. The power handling is double if you use 220 volts. This could be confusing for people like me who have been an electronic technician for over 30 years.

👤I had high hopes. I do a lot of research when buying things. The Sense Flex was replacing the energy monitor that came with the ATS Panel. The software of the PWR View was garbage, but it was perfect at matching my utility company numbers. I purchased the Sense Flex. I made my decision based on the reviews online and Sense's advancement in artificial intelligence. I open my panel and install the device according to the instructions. The diagram clearly shows the FlexCT Clamps on the utility side and the mainCT Clamps between the load and the service main. The written instructions say to put the mainCT clamps in the service main. Welp... The diagram shows the FlexCT clamps connected to the service main, but in writing they tell you to use the mainCT clamps. Moving along! In writing, they say that you need to connect the FlexCT to the service line which is shown in the picture. You can connect to the generator lines that feed the ATS. Those lines are completely different. Which is it? The MainCT's need to go between the Load and the generator and the FlexCT's need to go between the generator and the ATS were the things that were shuffled around in the panel. You can either get a reading of 0 or the generator is always on. Every time you change theCT, you have to reset the device so it doesn't know you've moved things around. We got the install sorted out. Time to watch the magic or lack of magic. The signal detection phase is when the device starts at zero and works its way up. I'm stuck at 0. I contact support. It was useless because there was no reply after 2 more days. The "community" forum is active with employees almost every hour, but it appears that no one can help you when you file a tech ticket. I subscribe to the forum because everyone is there. You can't post anything until we are certain that you will be a good citizen of the forum, which could take days. When you sign up, they send you a message. Strike 2. They don't have a phone number, so let me call them. I'm done. I'm analyzing the data to see if there's something I missed and I'm going to compare the Sense to the utility company. My numbers are way off. The Sense app shows that one of myCT clamps is reporting 0. I go out to the panel and give it a tap with my fist, and we'll report numbers until tomorrow. Do I have a badCT? Maybe I should add that to my ticket so no one will reply to it. Done. Wait a bit more, then move the clamp a few more times, without tech support. I can't get an accurate reading on basic electrical usage. This is pure khW. The last monitor was able to get the baseline number right. I ordered a new one because I didn't get tech support, community support or a product that worked. My hopes are not so high anymore. I will report back with updates once I receive the new unit. 👤This is the first electrical wall meter we've used. This is reasonably priced but the interface is not good. It has saved us some money already and we have not yet subjected it to more than moderate load, but we will do it for a short time to see how much power is actually being drawn by our portable air purifiers, lamp bulbs, and other things. We'll use it to test power tools eventually, and will update if there are any issues with that. I have been using this for a few weeks now and have definitely saved some money by getting rid of wall chargers, draining light bulbs, etc. We wish the interface was simpler to use, as it can be frustrating to push buttons a lot if you ever move off the screen you want, and they should have button on here that just automatically brings the live watt meter. The easiest way to reset the energy cost clock is to push the first and third buttons from the left at the same time. The other screens contain helpful information, but moving between them is a pain. Setting the local electricity cost was not intuitive and it was a pain to do, but luckily, only have to do it yearly at most. How come this doesn't come with a three to two-prong accessory? We use it with our old two-prong sockets all the time, and aren't most of the small devices one tests this with? One has to use the two-prong adapter on the back to get this into a sockets on the wall without having to plug anything into the other wall sockets at the same plate. It would be great to know how much power the meter is drawing, especially compared to other meters. Will update if there's more good or bad to report.

👤I have been frustrated with this product. The instructions were written in broken English and didn't make sense, especially with the way they described how the time meter works. I had to figure out how this thing worked. I have owned a Kill-A-Watt before and thought this would be easier. My purpose in using it was to figure out the cost of each appliance I use regularly, as we are on a smart meter rate plan, which has fluctuations in rates at different times of the day and year. It was easy to input my local cost rates with this device, but it wasn't difficult to figure out how to do it. As my husband noticed, it wasn't calculating correctly, as a previous reviewer pointed out. It was not keeping time accurately even if I had been able to read it. It would start out on the 1:08 reading for time, each and every use, and would never go beyond that. I couldn't get it to start at zero hour. I kept one device plugged in for eight hours and the timer never got to 1:08. How can the cost per hour be calculated if the time function doesn't work? I plugged in the older appliance that I knew was using a certain amount of power, and the new device said it was using nothing over the course of the day. This is a no-go for me because it doesn't do what it says it does and has no clear, concise instructions that I need to get the information I need.

👤Cool device and very accurate at detecting overall energy usage but individual device detection is hit and miss. It helps me monitor my home electricity usage in real time. It does an ok job detecting some appliances but not others. It is accurate for what my utility company is measuring and billing me for, so it is a good thing. If used regularly, data collection can be done about once a second and can identify resistance loads within a week. Most of these items were identified correctly but not all of them get detected between cycles. A pro will install the component for around $100, but there is not a lot of documentation to give a pro. The manufacturer doesn't have any real documentation for professional electricians, so a pro who isn't familiar with the product may struggle to get it wired into the panel quickly without going to the support website or calling technical support. If you have a panel with no room to add a new 2 pole breaker, your electrician will have to make room by adding at least 2 tandem breakers. It's difficult to get the antenna mounted outside my flush mounted panel because the short extension cable for the wifi antenna is not very long, and installing the sense inside a metal electrical panel is dooming the device to have a poor signal. Over time, the guesses have become more wild. Even though my clothes dryer wasn't on, a 10 watt load had a good chance of being a clothes dryer. The device will use a decent amount of network bandwidth when it's first started because it'sphoning home to help identify usage patterns. Those who use cellular data as the only means for internet, and those who have metered internet, are eligible. Will not detect variable speed motors, new pool pumps, modern HVAC equipment, HE washing machines, and will not find computers. My home office equipment uses about 160KWH/month, but I know that because of the Kill-A-Watt. The manufacturer could make a device similar to the Kill-A-Watt that pairs with the Sense monitor to quickly "train" sense on some of the most common appliances. The device discovery process would be sped up by this. I would love to walk around the house and train the Sense monitor to detect most of the things I use. The process of guessing would be eliminated. A "training mode" that lets a homeowner turn on one appliance at a time to help quickly identify the most commonly used appliances and lights. After the device is trained, the information will be more accurate. If you want to extend a home's wi-fi to the sense device, you should partner with a company that does that. Outside of the living space of the home, most electrical panels are located. I would imagine that it would be needed a lot, because most of the equipment is not close to these locations. My device in the garage is on the fringe of my internet, but my house is 2000 square feet and the internet is centrally located in the house. I don't think the sense device would be able to stay connected to the internet if my house was bigger. Technical documentation for electricians can be found in PDF. An electrician needs a set of technical instructions that can be printed out by the homeowner, even though the website is great. Determine if it is ok to connect to a breaker that accepts 2 conductors per circuit. The interface from a computer is incomplete. The power meter function is not available in the web interface for Sense, so the user has to use the phone app. This is a good meter. I wouldn't install it in a customer's home to break down their usage by category. It's cool to see usage when you turn things on and off. I think this device would be great for someone who wants to know if they should buy a backup generator for their home. I don't think the appliance identification is ready for prime time because most of the suggestions were wrong. The Sense device has not been able to identify any of the high tech appliances in my house because their power usage constantly varies. I had to pay an electrician to put in a $200 device that I expected more accuracy for. My power company lets me see the same reports on their website as I do, but I have a device that tells me how much electricity my house uses. My original review is still standing, but here is an amendment. Live power usage is great to view in a web interface. You can now setup your billing cycle so you can view your usage each month, but this could only be seen from the phone/tablet app. I can set up usage alerts to let me know if usage is above a threshold. Ex. My first 1000KWH is cheap. Everything after that is more expensive. In the Summer, I use less than 1000KWH. Sense will alert me if there is a trend towards going over my limit. Early in the billing cycle, I will usually get an alert to help me reduce my usage. The good news is that I have been able to reduce my electricity bill by staying under 1000KWH for 7 months of the year so far. The only accurate appliances that get identified on their own are the mini fridge, portable dehumidifier, and AC condenser. I created a generic 500 watt resistance (heat) load because the app sees it whenever I run one of the two small burners on my stove or my radiator space heating in my master bedroom. My pool pump runs from 8am-5pm but is variable speed. In the 10 months I have owned the Sense unit, it has never identified the pool pump as anything. The same goes for my computer. I tried to turn the computer off at night, but the Sense unit couldn't guess what the load was. I was surprised that the Sense unit could not identify our dishwasher. We run it for 3x a week on the same setting. It would be great to see how much energy the dishwasher uses. Sometimes I log into the app and see that it thinks appliances are running when they aren't. The app says "we will use the info to make things more accurate" when I report the errors. The data has to be accurate in order to become useful information. I don't think many homeowners are willing or able to confirm that their appliances are running, they are more likely to confirm the app's suggestion that an appliance is what it really is. Garbage data input is the same as garbage data output. A group of non-observant homeowners using this device could confirm the Sense guess that an appliance is their clothes dryer when it really is their oven, because they both have similar electric resistance loads. The machine learning could start to predict other homes the same way. This device is very accurate at detecting overall energy usage and does a great job keeping track of it, but do not expect it to accurately figure out everything in your home on a granular level. There are many things that can be done with a dishwasher, clothes dryer, Iron, Clothes washer, living room lights, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Oven, TV, cable box, computer, garage lights, vacuum Cleaner, Air Purifier, Pool Pump, etc. If those are your expectations, you will be happy with the product. I think you will be happy because it still has great features, but it's limitations are based on my and other's real-world experiences. The device is unable to detect anything in my home except the garage lights, garage door opener, and a 500 watt heating element load. It occasionally gets my pool cleaner pump, but it also says it is on during the day when it is clearly not, so the usage statistics are not accurate. After a few days, the device is detected as false on even if I report it as not on many times. It confuses my mini fridge and regular fridge, so usage statistics for each device are incorrect. Sometimes it is able to nail my AC, but not always. The overall usage meter is a good one, it is accurate within a half a percent of what my utility company says I use, but I stand by my statement that the appliance learning is not very good. I have had a device for 18 months that is unable to learn my home appliances, so I have a live energy monitor, which is useful, but I would never trust the appliance usage statistics. March 5, 2021, was upgraded to a 4.25 stars. The Sense monitor is my go-to for live production statistics because I installed a 6 panel solar array in Spring 2020. I don't check my solar statistics using this app. The portal is great. It only reports power consumption in 15 minute intervals. The sense monitor can tell me the difference between grid usage and solar production. I don't export much to the grid since I have a small array. I plan to install additional panels when I can afford them, but the majority of the costs of phase 1 was the design with expansion in mind, equipment install, the electrical wiring and conduit that had to be installed in a tight attic, luckily phase 2 will not require any house wiring changes this The solar section of the app is my go-to page and I am very happy with the Sense Labs portion of the app. The electrical fault detection is the best part of sense labs. You can download a 30 day history of any voltage dips and spikes into a csv spreadsheet if you want. Why is that important? If you have an intermittent connection problem like I did, you should get a floating neutral. This information can help you give information to your power company or electrician when they are trying to figure out why flickering lights are happening. The motor stalls are great for AC units. It may alert you to the fact that the Capacitor on the blower motor is failing or has failed, which will cause winding damage and eventually failure. Integration with smart plugs and switches. You can see usage statistics on the individual TP-Link switches, thanks to the fact that the devices it can identify are more accurate. Expansion port is more than just for solar. It's helpful for people with 400 Amp service panels, because it can be configured a few different ways. I wish there was a way to do 400 Amp service and still monitor solar, as some larger houses with solar may not be able to take full advantage of a sense monitor unless they roll out a version with multiple sensor ports. Accuracy is better than in the past, but most of what I said still stands. I think it is worth it for most homeowners. It helps shed light on our usage and INRDeals They are constantly improving features and accuracy. Their staff looks at the forum and asks for feature improvements. Even though this product is not perfect, you can see that they are continuing to innovate and add new useful features, and the price point has not changed since I purchased it.

👤Many people have posted inaccurate information about this unit and the entire product line. First thing, RTFM. All of us would do well to check EcoSmart before posting bad information, as they provide a wealth of information online. I have two of these units, one for domestic hot water and the other for our whole house hot water baseboard system. Some information is hard to find and can't be found online. I will focus on these areas. The unit has a rated power of 27KW. It is three separate 9KW heaters that operate in series and in sequence. The unit will not provide more heat than the load requires. Each individual heater requires a dedicated circuit rated at 40 Amps and provided via #8 wire. The total system load for each unit is 112.50 Amps. The person that tries to operate this unit off of a main breaker deserves what he gets. We can get away with it because we have ours connected to our main 150 service, and we can operate everything else with the available 37.5 Amps if the heating is running full load. Each internal unit requires a separate, dedicated 40 Amp circuit, equalling a total of three separate #8 wire circuits. I hope I made it clear. 3 copper pipes are cross connected in a series and are used for the heat exchanger inside the heater. There are sections of copper. There is a flow restriction, but it is not as radical as some of the reviews would have us believe. Some reviewers have said that their hot water is not hot. I've been in this unit for a long time. If your hot water only dribbles, it's time to clean your pipes or replace your valves. We have not been able to see a loss of flow in our house. It is difficult to find the upper temperature limit, but it is out there if you do your homework. 140 is the hard upper limit in the mode. EcoSmart states that this is not a limitation of the unit, but a safety limitation to minimize the chance of someone getting hot. EcoSmart supports hot water heating and even provides plumbing diagrams. They won't tell you how to get 160 or 180 degree water. There are internal jumpers in the heater that allow you to limit the maximum output temperature to 105 degrees, and it is also possible to set a wattage limit across the 3 heating elements. The factory setting is 140 degrees. output The jumper strip has a number marked "180" at the top. When power is restored, place a jumper on the two pins and the unit will allow a set point of up to 180 degrees. The older oil fired boilers used a setpoint of 200 degrees, which is why most hot water heating systems operate in the 160 degree area. Poor performance of most baseboard hot water systems and newer hydronic systems could be caused by a heater with an upper limit of 140 degrees. We replaced an old oil fired boiler with the ECO 27 and placed the setpoint at 160. I dropped the setpoint to 150 until we get into the dead of winter because of the amazing performance. It's nice to know that we have a reserve. EcoSmart gives a lot of information about this unit. People can't get their heads around a lot of what's available. The best way to heat the water is by 46 degrees. If you want a shower that is at least 120 degrees, you need incoming water of at least 64 degrees. If you live in an area with a water source that is 50 degrees or less, you will get 96 degree showers. A low-flow shower head is the obvious solution. This unit can give you a shower with a temperature of over 100 degrees. This unit will provide the full 140 degree setpoint with 50 degree incoming water. Incoming water of at least 114 degrees is required for boiler service. The unit is loafing along while providing 160 degree water to the baseboard units, which is not uncommon in most hot water heating systems. Most standard hot water heating systems have a design of either 1 or 4 gallons per minute. The temperature rise chart from EcoSmart shows that a temperature rise of 184 degrees is possible. Most hot water systems operate with a differential of 17 degrees or less. Being able to maintain the differential is more important than the temperature setpoint. We need 163 degree water for a 180 degree output. We only need a max of 10 GPM, but at a mere 17 degree rise, this heater can flow well beyond 6 GPM. of 4 gallons per minute. It is a perfect solution for boiler service. It is small and smart. This unit is capable of 92,000 BTU/HR, so if you're considering it for hot water baseboard or hydronic service, it's worth a look. This is the largest electric tankless available. The largest electric tankless is 36kw. To set the record straight. I give this unit 5 stars. Technical support, price and reliability are all right there. The unit comes with a lifetime warranty. Cleaning and maintenance can be accomplished with aPhillips screwdriver. The unit is so small and lightweight that I carried it into the house and didn't say a word. I didn't know I'd done this until days later. The unit is waterproof and supports a remote thermostat. The little remote is perfect for a location next to your sink or shower. We are a household of 3 adults and all of them do the same things. I have been able to cause the heater to fail by running the tub wide open. I have not heard a single complaint in any other situation where two showers at once, someone in the shower, someone else doing laundry, etc. I've never heard anyone say it's better to have a long shower or not have to wait. My wife used to complain about no hot water for the dishes because I took a long shower. This unit is self-modulating. People who have reported lights flickering and their TV having problems need to look at their house wiring. The unit starts softly, like turning on a light dimmer. There are no lights in this house. The only way to tell if the unit is running is to look at it. When the unit is on, the display is only lighted. The energy savings are not to be overlooked. Even if you're on vacation, a tank heater will keep a tank full of hot water. The tankless does nothing if it senses water flow. EcoSmart units won't send hot water to the faucets that are leaking. I gave this four stars because I found the instructions so typical of manufacturers instructions done by someone who may possibly understand all the factors but fails to write them for someone less educated on the subject. Do you ever ask someone who has never installed your product what questions they might have? The answer is definitely not. I had to guess at the rest because I found other manufacturers who had written better instructions for similar products. I mentioned that I talked to two professional electricians who had never heard of such a device and installed one which made me realize how ignorant Leviton is of their potential installers and the information they might require for a successful installation.

👤This was used to measure usage at a sub panel. To get the wires where they need to go, you need to drill a hole. I'm not sure why they couldn't mold knockout plugs. I found a cheaper option to install. I can't rate the accuracy because I never used it. I'm sure it will be fine.
